Considering that more and more people are now opting to travel on a cruise holiday than ever before it is perhaps worth having a look into the destinations that you can go when you embark on a cruise break away.

Indeed, one of the most popular routes is through the Caribbean and this has proved time and time again to be a great place to go on a cruise. It is the exotic nature of this location that brings its mass appeal and you are unlikely to get the kind of weather coupled with the sights anywhere else in the world. The opportunity exists to see some of the great reefs that are on offer as well as snorkel in amongst some of the wildlife; what is true is that a Caribbean cruise is one that you will be unlikely to forget. However if you are looking for something perhaps closer to home but still experiencing similar weather conditions then look into the possibility of going on a cruise around the Mediterranean.

Here you can take in some of the most historical and cultured cities and countries in the world including the likes of Spain and Greece and even the tip of Africa as well. These cruises give you an exotic nature without having to travel halfway around the world to get it.

If you do like to travel further afield however then it is worth considering cruises to Alaska. For sure it isn’t the shortest of journeys and you will spend a considerable amount of time at sea however it is something that you really should experience as the scenery and natural wonder of the whole place is truly stunning. From 1000 foot waterfalls to the world renowned Glacier Bay; Alaska really offers something that is unique and well worth the trip. While we think about all these exotic locations on offer you can also take a trip to the North America mainland and cruises regularly go to places such as New York; given the reputation that the city has it is definitely worth going to see at least once in your lifetime and with a cruise holiday you can take in so much more at the same time.

All these destinations and routes are just an entry point into the world of cruise holidays and it is worth remembering that there are a wide variety of itineraries on offer that will suit just about every need and travel desire.

Article by Leena

Krakow in southern Poland is a remarkable city with one of the best preserved historic centres in Europe. Founded on wealth generated by salt extraction in the Middle Ages, Krakow rose to become the capital of Poland and seat of the Polish monarch until the 16th century when this moved to Warsaw. Nevertheless Krakow retained its status as a major cultural, intellectual and trading centre with much fine architecture.

Hidden from Western European eyes for many decades during the 20th century Krakow was virtually unknown to the burgeoning tourist market until the fall of communism in Eastern Europe facilitated easier access after 1989. Since this reawakening of Poland’s tourist potential in the 1990s a host of excellent hotels have opened their doors in Krakow whilst the city has managed to retain much of its historic charm with strict controls on traffic, road development and new construction in the historic parts of the city centre. Add to this the relatively cheap cost of living in European terms and the superb range of attractions in and around the city as well as a plethora of excellent restaurants and good shopping and you have the recipe for one of the finest city break destinations in Europe today!

The heart of the city is the superbly preserved medieval Old Town which surrounds the wonderful wide expanse of the Old Market Square with the imposing Cloth Hall at its centre. Ancient streets once walked by the kings and queens of Poland lead through this Old Town along the Royal Route from Florianska Gate to the Royal Castle sitting majestically astride Wawel Hill overlooking a bend in the River Wisla (Vistula). The Cathedral, University and many museums and other outstanding cultural and architectural sights lie within the very well preserved walls of the Old Town which in turn are surrounded by a lovely green boulevard, the Planty, through which you can take a pleasant stroll on a warm summer’s day whilst marvelling at the history around you.

Krakow offers a combination of hotels to suit all needs and this is a major reason behind its continuing rise as a city break destination. What’s more, whilst there is plenty to occupy the average tourist without having to leave the city centre, many people choose Krakow city breaks because they want to combine a short break in a fascinating historic city with a visit to the town of Oswiecim, site of the notorious wartime camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau. This is easy to do by taking the regular bus or train yourself or by joining one of the many guided tours that pick up at main hotels for half or full day trips.

Another very popular excursion from Krakow involves a visit to the salt mine at Wielicka. Little salt is extracted commercially in the area today, but one of the mines is preserved in working order and visitors can take a trip underground. The miners here developed a tradition of carving the underground salt rock to form spectacular sculptures and in addition to learning how the salt was mined visitors can marvel at the truly magnificent works left by the miners, including a complete underground cathedral in a huge chamber decorated with intricate carvings. The visit is not easy for those with limited mobility, and the organised tourist visits can be a little ‘tacky’. Wieliecka is only 15 minutes from Krakow, however, so you can easily visit on public transport. Get there at the start of the day for the least ‘touristy’ experience!

For those who want more than just a city break there are many other places of interest in the Krakow area, including Wadowice, the birthplace of Pope John Paul, and the legendary pilgrimage site of Czestochowa, and another popular (but full day) trip is to the mountain resort of Zakopane.

Krakow is a great city break destination at any time of the year. Of course it gets pretty chilly in winter but its also quieter and generally cheaper than the summer months. The exception is the period around Christmas as from early December there is a wonderful Christmas Market in the Old Market Square which is enormously popular with Poles and visitors alike. Krakow is becoming more and more popular so there may never be a better time to visit, with prices still reasonable, the worst tourist excesses yet to arrive there and a refreshing feeling of discovery still pervading the town and its people. So we recommend that you go now before it’s too late; contact Cities Direct – which specialises in individually tailored city breaks to Krakow – for expert advice and the very best prices on the market.

In times of an economic down turn breaks abroad are getting too expensive for many people, especially with the weakness of the pound. But you need not worry as the UK has many great city break destination to help you beat the crunch while still having fun.

Liverpool
The city may no longer be the official capital of culture for Europe anymore but there is till so much going for this city. Liverpool has certainly put the less then favourable stereotype to bed after years and millions of pounds of regeneration. The city is now a modern and cosmopolitan with a life and style to rival any city on the continent.

Manchester
After the terrible bombing of the city centre by the IRA in 1996 Manchester has undergone millions of pounds of rebuilding. 2002 Commonwealth Games saw even more investment to make Manchester a thoroughly modern place. The city has so much to offer for anyone who is looking for a fantastic weekend getaway.

Bath
The only World Heritage City in England, Bath is like a living museum with a wealth or architecture that would be the envy of any city in the world. The most famous attraction is of course the Roman Baths, one of the finest remains of the Roman Empire found outside of Italy. Out side of the baths though can be found street after street of Georgian buildings which will make you feel you have traveled back in time.

Cardiff
Cardiff is most defiantly a city on the up. The redevelopment of the Bay area is a sign that Cardiff is quickly becoming a modern and sophisticated city. The city is great for a spot of shopping and taking it easy on a sunny day lazing by the Taff in Bute Park.

Belfast
The city has changed so much over recent years. Belfast is quickly establishing itself as a top destination for nights out that can rival the likes of Manchester and Liverpool. With regular flights from many regional airports Belfast reputation as a top city break destination is on the rise.

Oxford
The city of dreaming spires is not just a city for the academic elite. Oxford is a trendy city with many great bars and restaurants to ensure you have a great night out. Of course by day you have the beautiful sights of the city which can boast some truly spectacular architecture which can be viewed on a leisurely punt along the river, just like in Venice.

Leeds
Leeds has adopted a great relaxed atmosphere which helps you loose all the tension from your working life. The city also has many great shops, bars and restaurants which can only help make for a relaxing and refreshing break away.

London
London has long been one of the very best city breaks in the world. It has a life and charm all of its own that will draw you in and make it very difficult to leave. There is so many things to see and do it’s almost impossible to be in the capital and have nothing to do, unless that’s all you want. Once you have taken your first city break in London it islikely you will be taking another and another.

Choosing Spanish destinations

A very long list of questions pops into your mind when preparing to visit a country. What am I going to see? Which city should I choose? Should I expect it to be cheap? Will I experience new customs and traditions? If you think about it, all these questions are nothing but natural and when you visit Spain you have to have an answer to all of them before choosing an exact destination. Spain is a country that will surprise you in a very pleasant way. It has so many regions, an impressive plethora of sights, a rich cultural, historical and architectural heritage and so many things to do that choosing the right destination can be a little bit confusing as there are too many.

Choosing Barcelona

Millions of people from all over the world choose to visit Barcelona while in Spain.

Why Barcelona and not Madrid, the capital, is probably the question that you will ask yourselves. Well, Barcelona is sometimes more visited than Madrid due to the fact that it is the city that hosts the impressive work of Antoni Gaudi. Who hasn’t heard about the outstanding Sagrada Familia? Even though the Cathedral is not even finished yet, thousands of tourists visit it every day impressed by the modernist architecture it displays, its towers and its decorations.

You will love it too! Barcelona is also famous for Las Ramblas, the paved boulevard that leads tourists towards the splendid Plaza de Cataluña. The Old part of the city hosts other impressive monuments: the Santa Eulalia Church displaying a spectacular Gothic architecture and the San Pablo Ocampo Church. The Barri Gotic is another ‘’must’’ in Barcelona, one of its most interesting and beautiful quarters as is the Arc del Triomf made of red bricks.

Going to Madrid

Madrid, the capital of this beautiful country is famous and popular among young tourists for its active nightlife. The city is also popular for hosting some of the finest and most interesting museums in the world as well as for being a place with a very rich historical heritage.

Other attractions

While in Spain, you should also direct some of your attention towards the Alhambra, the outstanding palace that you will find in Granada, a palace representative of the Moorish architecture. Cordoba is another city that has to be visited as this is the place where you will find the famous La Mezquita, Europe’s grandest mosque.

Holidaying in a villa villas espagne offers several advantages. You can have several choices among location calpe and villa calonge where you can enjoy all the usual comforts you feel at home.

Article by OCEANIA WORLD TRAVEL

Most people have been on at least one trip, whether that trip was for business or for pleasure, and whether that was a short road trip, or a long once in a lifetime vacation, the majority of people have traveled. What sets the savvy traveler apart from all the rest is experience and education in traveling. Traveling is meant to be enjoyable, but for some it is more enjoyable then for others. The reason for this is typically how prepared the travelers are. Preparation is usually the difference between a stressful and pleasant experience.

One of the best ways for travelers to be prepared is by giving him or herself enough time to make the necessary preparations, which include booking the necessary transportation, hotels, and other services needed while traveling. These are usually the first steps travelers take before their trip. However, another necessary preparation, which may be overlooked by those that do not travel often, is the gathering and studying of maps. There are many people who do this as a hobby, and there are others who never touch maps because they do not understand them and feel they are too much trouble. The savvy travelers know that maps are an essential part of any trip, whether a short road trip on a weekend or a trip around the world.

The first step that was mentioned is gathering maps. There are several resources available to travelers. A person planning a trip can buy road maps at most stores or gas stations. They can go to their local travel agency and they can also contact the travel and tourism office for their destination, this can be done online for those who know how to use the internet. Other methods for obtaining travel maps is shopping for specific ones online or calling the hotel or car rental agency that the traveler will be using and asking them for maps.

Once the maps are collected, the savvy travelers will study those maps, not just gather, and pack them. They will mark the route, which will be traveled if driving either by car, the whole trip or just once at the destination by using a rental car. They will circle any places they plan to visit either along the way such as rest stops or scenic sites along the road, along with attractions or sites at the destination itself. Savvy travelers will also keep their maps on them while traveling so they can easily be accessed when needed. A map will do a person no good if it is packed at the bottom of a suitcase or left at a hotel.

There are certain people that enjoy the thrill of spontaneity and do not care for planning. This may be all right for quick weekend trips to familiar locations; it is not necessarily the best idea when traveling to unknown places, especially when traveling to foreign destinations. Savvy travelers know it is best to be prepared, and enjoy the trip with little stress and hassle, which is what anyone hopes for while traveling.

Shanghai, China is a major tourist destination in Asia with abundant historical landmarks. A few of the frequently visited places within the city are the internationally renowned the City God Temple and the Oriental Pearl Tower that lies in the middle of its ever-expanding metro region.

Business travel is probably the oldest form of travel known to man and perhaps the single most influential reason behind the development of the travel industry. A few millennia ago traders and sea farers undertook arduous journeys across the seven seas and the five continents in the name of commerce. Today company executives undertake the same journeys, sometimes even visiting the same cities in the name of corporate travel.

With the globalization of international trade and emerging markets, business travel has grown exponentially. Following the post Second World War era and the expansion of trade and commerce many corporate organizations looked towards expanding their horizons and spreading beyond their homelands. This concept is not entirely new, for example the colonial eras preceding the 20th century saw certain European companies expanding into Asia, Australia and Africa.

Following this phenomenon and the emerging markets in Asia and Latin America fuelled the growth of business travel.

Especially with the current lull in the global economy, increasing inflation, high oil prices and the specter of terrorism leisure travel has seen a decrease. However, by stark contrast business travel has been increasing rapidly. Many attribute this to North American companies outsourcing production to emerging Asian players such as China, Vietnam and Thailand. Also the booming economies of India and China have made it the place to be as far as trade and commerce is concerned.

With a number of factors fuelling the growth of business travel, many airlines, hotels and other travel related service providers have been quick to explore this vibrant market segment.

Business travelers are mostly affluent and demand a certain level of sophistication. They also require tools to facilitate their business transactions such as meeting and conferencing facilities, the latest communications technology and most importantly a serene environment at the hotel they chose to stay in.

For business travellers to treading all around the world, Langham Hotels offer a luxurious gateway. Langham International, a reputed luxury hotel chain offers great comforts to business travelers from around the world at its numerous properties.
