Northcliff House overlooks the
busy harbour and picturesque village of Portpatrick on the rugged west
coast of Galloway, Scotland. The house makes for a great base from which
to explore this fascinating and beautiful part of Scotland. The village
has a number of curio and antique shops, local shops with ATM machines, a
Post Office, and a regular bus service into Stranraer where the larger
shops are located if you want to leave the car.

Locally, we have the challenging Portpatrick Golf Course, and
the smaller 9-hole Dinvin course. A few miles down the road is the
Lagganmore
Golf Course, and in Stranraer itself is the excellent Stranraer Golf
Course alongside Loch Ryan. However, golfing is not the only thing on
offer locally!
Food and drink lovers will be well satisfied with the harbour side
restaurants and bars in Portpatrick, many offering local fresh produce in
season, including game, fish, meat, fruit and vegetables. We are fortunate
in that we have the Colfin Smokehouse just
outside Portpatrick, and much of its Scottish produce is used locally.
In the summer Portpatrick becomes very busy, with its Lifeboat Week, its
Truck Pull event,
The Folk
Festival weekend and the Sailing Ships weekend! Add to this
the usual amount of sea-borne traffic for the better part of the year and
there is plenty to see and do and join in with! Gardening fans will be
delighted with the abundance of public and private gardens open to
visitors during the spring-summer-early autumn. Dunskey Gardens are close
at hand, whilst further down the Rhins of Galloway we have the famous
Logan Botanic Garden just outside of Port Logan (the location for the
filming of the BBC TV series "2000 Acres Of Sky" incidentally!) -
which itself is home to the intriguing Logan Fish Pond. Slightly
further afield is the outstanding privately-created garden at
Glenwhan in
Dunragit.

If you enjoy angling there is Silverline Marine Charters operating right out
of Portpatrick harbour most days, offering sea angling and sealife cruises. There is also Seafishing Scotland
operating out of Drummore to the south. There is also a great amount of
river and loch fishing available too, not forgetting casting from the
shore or sea wall for free!
